Delta Blues Rice takes home 2016 Southern Living Food Award

We sure have come a long way from when we first developed the idea for Delta Blues Rice in 2013. Over the last three years, we’ve made our way into more than 150 retail stores (large and small), including Whole Foods and boutique shops across the South. We’ve also sparked up relationships with food service companies like U.S. Foods, Creation Gardens, Sunrise Produce and Gulf Coast Produce, making it easier for restaurants from Texas to New York to serve up our single variety rice to their patrons.

Farmers who grow their own rice sacrifice a lot to put food on the table for thousands. Farmers who grow, mill, package and ship their own rice to be sold sacrifice more than most. Thankfully, all the time we’ve put into building Delta Blues Rice from the ground up has proven to be well worth it.Print

In case you missed it, last month we were awarded the Southern Living Food Award for Best Rice! The products that make this list are among the best artisan-made items found below the Mason-Dixon line. Talk about a compliment! Southern Living experts canvass the South, testing out the latest and greatest products. Then, they award the best products with the honor. To see the full list, click here.

The good news continues because we recently learned that we’re also one of six finalists for the Southern Living and Atlanta Food & Wine Festival Southern Food and Drink Entrepreneurs Award. On June 2, we will present our story and product to a panel of esteemed judges in Atlanta who know their food. No pressure! We’ll also be in the tasting tents Saturday, June 4 giving out samples of our rice pudding to 1,200 festivalgoers courtesy of chef Cole Ellis of Delta Meat Market in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Being recognized by Southern Living and the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival would not be possible without the support of our rice-lovers. Farming is more than just an occupation for us; it’s a lifestyle that has been in our family for nearly a century.
